ABOUT DR DARREN BURKE

Dr. Darren Burke is an Associate Professor in the School of Psychology, situated at the serene Ourimbah campus. As an Experimental/Biological Psychologist, his academic passion revolves around the exploration of Visual, Spatial, and Social abilities and their intriguing evolution.

His research work is an intricate tapestry of experimental psychology, all linked by the central question of why certain mechanisms function as they do. Dr. Burke’s investigations traverse various domains, from visual perception (where he received his postgraduate training) to areas such as spatial memory, learning without awareness, observational learning, face and object recognition, and social cognition.

Dr. Burke’s commitment to education is evident through his extensive teaching experience. He has taught a diverse range of subjects in Experimental Psychology, encompassing Perception, Cognition, Learning, Motivation and Emotion, Biological Psychology, Evolutionary Psychology, Animal Behavior, and Research Methods. He has even ventured into the Biology Department, sharing insights on Human Physiology, Vertebrate Evolution, and the Biology of Sex. Currently, he is actively involved in teaching Biological Psychology at the 2nd-year level and Perception and Learning at the 3rd-year level.

In 2009, he briefly ventured into the Biology Department, where he delivered lectures in courses related to Human Physiology, Vertebrate Evolution, and the Biology of Sex.
